Rainbow smelt
Rainbow smelt is a highly-valued sea fish of the cod family inhabiting cold waters of the northern hemisphere, including the Arctic Ocean and its adjacent seas, such as the Bering Sea and the Sea of Okhotsk. Rainbow smelt has a prolonged body, compressed from the sides, which makes it suitable for life in deep waters. Its main color is silver with a greenish hue on the back. Sizes: 20~30 cm.
Rainbow smelt is widely spread in the northern part of the Pacific Ocean. It is mostly abundant near the shores of Kamchatka. It can also be seen along the shoreline of the Sea of Okhotsk, near the Kurile Islands and Sakhalin.
