Japanese dace
Dace is a freshwater fish species valued for its highly nutritious qualities and unrivalled taste. The maximum body length is forty centimeters, while mass may reach up two kilograms, but most commonly fishermen catch smaller specimen about twenty centimeters long and weighing 100 to 300 grams.
A dace living in the Far East is called marine or Japanese dace or ugai (“ugui” in Japanese). The Sakhalin subspecies of Japanese dace has a rather narrow habitat. Besides Sakhalin, it can be found all along the Pacific coasts. It can be found near Iturup Island, too.
